Aims

By the end of the course, students will be able to: transmit scientific knowledge in art history, archaeology, and musicology, the focus being on oral communication. Based on the skills already acquired in scientific research, they will be able to formulate, present, and analyse discourses constructed in view of a target audience.

Main themes

Introduction to the specificities of intellectual synthesis and overview of the specific means and methods available for the transmission of information in the domains of art history, archaeology, and musicology. Theoretical presentations and experiments on: - communication conditions; - the construction of a presentation; - the constitutive parts of oral communication; - oral communication skills.

Content and teaching methods

Contents
Introduction to the specificities of intellectual synthesis and overview of the specific means and methods available for the transmission of information in the domains of art history, archaeology, and musicology. Theoretical presentations and experiments on: - communication conditions: contextual objectives, discourses on relation, environment, speaking time,…; - the construction of a presentation, types of plans; - the constitutive parts of oral communication: verbal and non-verbal language; - oral communication skills: reading aloud, interviews, lectures.
Methods
Individual exercises are recorded on video and analysed in view of helping students to a self-diagnosis that aids progress. Compulsory tutorial for students enrolled in the agrégation, optional for other students. 15 hours of tutorial in groups of 20 students.

Pre-requisites: Oral presentation experience is required in the framework of the courses given by the department.
Assessment: The written exam consists in an individual self-evaluative critique of the exercises recorded on video.
Course materials: Documents distributed during the course.
