Aims
Knowledge of great works and literary movements of the 18th and 19th centuries. By the end of the course, students should be able to speak about an author, his/her works, and their impact, to (potentially) recognize certain typical texts, and also to situate one author with respect to another or within a given period.
The skills required are capacities of synthesis, comprehension, and memorisation.
Main themes
For obvious reasons, the course procedes chronologically.
The course is given in BAC 2 and BAC 3 with the same title but a different subject matter. One year covers the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century; the other year covers the second half of the 19th century and the 20th century.
Content and teaching methods
Literary history and its periods. The trends and works of the 18th and 19th centuries. Study of the relationships between the works and: ideological and cultural productions; political, social, and economic movements.
