Aims

Intended for students already introduced to broad currents in psychology, the course aims to raise their awareness using certain applications within the framework of pastoral action.

Main themes

This course looks to the pioneers of pastoral psychology, the options that inspired them and the limits of their respective projects. On this basis, the course proposes a distribution of tasks and sectors of activity within this discipline. Beginning with situational analyses, the fundamental principles of pastoral psychology are applied to the aid interview and/or group counselling.

Content and teaching methods

2001-2002 :

The course seeks to define this new discipline, situated at the interface of human sciences and pastoral theology. It will refer to possible contributions, ecclesiastical action and various schools of psychology. The relationship between "spirituality" and "psychology" is examined. Three fields of activity are then studied: group dynamics and counselling, dialogue called "pastoral" and spiritual accompaniment. Based on a global introduction, these domains will be the object of practical exercises and case studies. Individual course evaluation is replaced by student reaction in dealing with a given pastoral situation.
