Aims
At the end of the course, the student will be able to handle the essential grammar structures of the Middle Egyptian grammar. He will be able to transliterate and translate some sentences written in HieroglyphS, for instances the hieroglyphic legends, that accompany the Egyptian reliefs, paintings and statues
Main themes
Learning the classic language of Pharaonic Egypt, i.e. Middle Egyptian. Systematic study of the hieroglyphic writing and of its grammar ( morphology and syntax) and basic vocabulary. Translation of sentences and related exercises.
Content and teaching methods
Study of the hieroglyphic characters of Pharaonic Egypt and of classical Egyptian grammar (Middle Egyptian) and of a basic vocabulary. Reading, transliterating and translating of sentences used as paradigms; related exercises and working with a dictionary. The course will have a written support named "Egyptien ancien : éléments d'une grammaire du Moyen Egyptien; méthode progressive et exercices d'application".
