Aims
The student is lead to complete and consolidate the knowledge of Classic Greek acquired in the First Year; particular attention is paid to translation.
Main themes
Contents: (a) Systematic study of accentuation and vocabulary; presentation of verbal morphology and syntax within their historical framework(s). (b) Exercises on the preceding subjects. (c) Commented reading of a grammatical viewpoint on Classic prose writers.
Method: theoretical lectures - systematic applications - practical exercises- translation and grammatical explanation of texts.
Content and teaching methods
This course aims to complete and consolidate the knowledge of Classic Greek acquired in the First Year. It is articulated in three parts: (a) Study of accentuation and vocabulary; presentation of verbal morphology and syntax; questions in Greek linguistics to be chosen by the students. (b) Practical exercises on the preceding subjects. (c) Reading and commentary from a grammatical viewpoint of Classic prose writers by the students.

Prerequisites: GLOR 1170 Greek I or equivalent knowledge of Greek.
Assessment: carried out systematically during the year; final examination at the end of the year by written and oral assessment.
Course Materials: Accentuation: Y. Duhoux, Eléments d'accentuation grecque (course notes). Vocabulary: S. BYL, Vocabulaire grec de base, Liège, 1980(6). Grammar Book: Ch. Van de Vorst, Grammaire grecque élémentaire, Liège, 1975; Y. Duhoux, Le verbe grec ancien, Louvain-la-Neuve, 2000. Prose authors: texts vary from year to year.
