Short course on Information Theory

Abstract
This course aims to highlight the major results in information theory. Starting with measuring the uncertainty in information, we will discuss the limits of lossless compression and reliable communication from one point to another through a noisy link. Lossy compression and multiple user communication problems will also be reviewed.
This will be an informal course. All with some probability knowledge are welcome to attend.

Short biography
Melda Yuksel received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering at Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, NY, in August 2007, and the B.S. degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2001.
She joined TOBB University of Economics and Technology, Ankara, Turkey, in Fall 2007. In 2004, she was a summer researcher in Mathematical Sciences Research Center, Bell-Labs, Lucent Technologies, Murray Hill, NJ. Her research interests include communication theory and information theory and more specifically cooperative communications, network information theory, and information-theoretic security over communication channels.
Melda Yuksel is the recipient of the best paper award at the Communication Theory Symposium of the 2007 IEEE International Conference on Communications.
