Linguists’ Day 2024

Friday 11 October, University of Mons (UMONS)

This year’s edition of the annual Linguists’ Day of the LSB will be organised on Friday 11 October 2024 at the Faculté de Traduction et d’Interprétation – École d’Interprètes Internationaux (FTI-EII) of the University of Mons (UMONS).

Call for papers (PDF)
We invite submissions for papers (20’ presentation + 10’ discussion) on any topic in linguistics. Papers can be given in any of the three Belgian national languages (Dutch, French, German) or in English.

Abstracts cannot exceed 500 words (excl. references) and should be anonymous. They should clearly indicate the subject, objectives, data and methods, and (provisional) results. Deadline for submission is 15 April 2024. Please send your abstract to linguistsday2024@umons.ac.be.

All abstracts will go through a double-blind evaluation by two members of the scientific committee. Notification of acceptance will be given by 1 July 2024. A selection of papers will be published in the electronic journal Papers of the Linguistic Society of Belgium.

Venue
The conference will take place in the main building of the FTI-EII (n°2 on the map) on the Plaine de Nimy Campus of the University of Mons, located Avenue du Champ de Mars 17, 7000 Mons. Lunch will be organised in the student restaurant (n°9 on the map). The campus is at a walking distance from the Mons railway station.

Conference fee
Attendance is free of charge for members and non-members, but online registration is required before 30 September 2024. Membership fee amounts to €50 if you wish to obtain the paper versions of the two volumes of Nota Bene, €25 if you wish to have only electronic access to both volumes.

Lunch
If you would like to take part in the three-course meal at the university restaurant, please tick this option in the registration form and indicate any dietary preferences. The price of this meal is €10 for PhD students and non-tenured staff, and €15 for tenured staff. This should be paid by 30 September 2024 into IBAN BE36 0910 0987 018 (UMONS). Please mention LSB 2024 – T217PC001 – Your name.

Best Paper Award
PhD students can compete for the Best Paper Presentation Award. If you wish to take part, please mention this in the registration form.

Plenary Talk
Bert Oben (KU Leuven) will give a plenary talk entitled Eye gaze in simultaneous interpreting.
