General (https://uclouvain.be/en/study/inscriptions/admission-requirements-master-s-degree.html) and specific admission requirements for this program must be satisfied at the time of enrolling at the university.

In the event of the divergence between the different linguistic versions of the present conditions, the French version shall prevail.



Specific Admission Requirements

1. Student must hold a first level university degree.

2. Provide proof of a sufficient level in French (B1 of the European Framework of Reference)

3. Students must have previously studied and developed skills in:

  • the scientific written and oral practices of the French language;
  • the following disciplines of philosophy: logic, moral philosophy, epistemology, anthropology, metaphysics, social philosophy and aesthetics;
  • the history of philosophy;
  • reading and commenting on a major philosophical text;

at the end of an undergraduate programme, including at least the 60 specific credits listed below:

  • An introduction to philosophy (5 credits);
  • Moral philosophy (6 credits);
  • Epistemology (10 credits);
  • Logic (5 credits);
  • Metaphysics (5 credits);
  • Anthropology (5 credits);
  • Notions of aesthetics and art philosophy (3 credits);
  • Social and political philosophy (4 credits);
  • History of philosophy (6 credits);
  • Analysis of philosophical texts (6 credits);
  • Introduction to scientific writing (5 credits).

The 30 credits of the Minor in Philosophy [30.0] satisfy these requirements.

Courses not taken will be added to the Master's programme (without exceeding a total of 15 credits).
If the total number of prerequisites exceeds 15 credits, admission to the Master's programme is subject to successful completion of the Master's in Ethics preparatory year [60.0] (https://uclouvain.be/xprog-2019-ethi1pm), for which the programme is tailored to the student's academic record.

Course equivalences must be approved by the Chair of the Examination Board, the Examination Board Secretary and the Vice Dean.

Admission and Enrolment Procedures for general registration
