Broaden and/or deepen knowledge and skills in the study of the language, literature and culture of the Dutch-speaking world and use them, in conjunction with the learning outcomes of the major, where relevant in order to conduct the in-depth study of questions specifically relevant to linguistics, the study of texts, literature and culture, in particular as regards their relationship to the Dutch language.

 

On successful completion of this programme, each student is able to :

Compl-discpl.1. : attain competence in communication in Dutch and the Dutch language at level B2+ (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)


Compl-discpl.2. :  develop in-depth analysis of the phenomena, questions or problems connected to Dutch studies and supplementary to those studied on the major; in particular, a deeper comprehension of a linguistic corpus of oral/written texts, literary texts that are contemporary or the product of the periods studied or a cultural, aesthethic and linguistic subject with a connection to the Dutch-speaking world.


Compl-discpl.3. : Demonstrate an in-depth understanding and be able to use a variety of critical analysis tools where relevant for Dutch studies, in particular, according to the student’s preference, in the field of linguistics (general linguistics and applied Dutch linguistics, contrastive linguistics, discourse analysis) and of the two literary and cultural studies (text study, literary theory and plot analysis, the history of literature and ideas in Dutch-speaking countries, aesthetics, comparative literature)


Compl-discpl.4. : Comprehend and integrate an interdisciplinary and comparative approach: develop an opinion using what the student has learned (theories, concepts, approaches, etc.) from different fields (linguistics, literary and cultural studies) that have served to provide more in-depth studies of the language and culture of the Dutch-speaking world and that are related to the major in order to rigorously question, analyse and discuss a phenomenon, question or complex problem relating to the field of his or her major and/or relevant to connected fields.


Compl-discpl.5 : Dutch immersion in another institution or overseas. Be able to carry out part of his or her current or future training in a Dutch-speaking institution in Belgium or overseas: Develop in an international and multicultural environment, further the scientific study of another language and literature from a cross-cultural perspective, articulate disciplinary analysis from different angles and be open to other learning experiences.
