General and specific admission requirements for this program must be satisfied at the time of enrolling at the university..

Specific Admission Requirements

 

Student must hold a first level university degree.

Provide proof of a sufficient level in French (B1 of the European Framework of Reference )

Student must demonstrate skills in the following subjects :
⇒ Ancient oriental culture and civilisation;
⇒ Ancient oriental history and society;
⇒ Ancient oriental language and literature;
⇒ Human sciences;
⇒ Modern languages and literature.

In the absence of sufficient training in one or several of these subjects, prerequisites will be added to the masters programme (maximum 15 credits).

If the total number of prerequisites exceeds 15 credits, access to the master is subject to the student passing an additional year, the programme of which is established based on the student's file.

Course equivalences are submitted for approval to the chairman of the jury, the secretary of the jury and the academic faculty secretary.

Bachelor in Ancient Languages and Literatures: Oriental Studies   Direct access  
Bachelor in Ancient languages and Literatures : Classics If students have taken and provided they have studied, in this minor, at least one of the Oriental languages for two years and two courses on the civilisation of Ancient Egypt and the Near East  Direct access  
Other FIAL Bachelors If students have taken and provided they have taken, in this minor, at least three Oriental language courses and two courses on the civilisation of Ancient Egypt and the Near East  Direct access  
Bachelor in Arts and Letters If student has taken the Minor in Oriental Studies and has studied the same Oriental Language (A) during two years of the minor  Direct access  
Other Bachelor If student has taken the Minor in Oriental Studies and has studied the same Oriental Language (A) during two years of the minor  Direct access
With prerequisites integrated into the masters programme (max. 15 credits)
 
All other Bachelors If students have taken Minor in Antiquity : Egypt, Orient, Greece, Rome and provided they have taken, in this minor, at least three Oriental language courses and two courses on the civilisation of Ancient Egypt and the Near East  Direct access

All requests for admission based on the student’s academic record (as well as category II and III bridging programmes) should be submitted to Mme Fiorella Flamini, Study Adviser at the Faculty of Philosophy, Arts and Letters (Collège Mercier, 14 bte L3.06.01, Place Cardinal Mercier B-1348 Louvain-la-Neuve, conseiller.etudes-fial@uclouvain.be, tel. : +32 (0)10 47 48 57). The application file should include a letter in support of the application, academic transcripts for every year in higher education, a copy of the qualification(s) gained and, where the student has had a professional career, a curriculum vitae.
