The preparatory year provides students with the basic tools in linguistics, literature and culture of either one Germanic and one Romance language or two Germanic languages, to help them sucessfully follow the Master [60] in Modern Languages and Literatures : General or the Master [120] in Modern Languages and Literatures : General.

The specific programme for two Germanic languages /both languages studied (one Germanic and one Romance language) includes specialised courses aimed at developing four skills :

• Communication ;
• Linguistic skills (study of grammer and its elements) ;
• Literary skills (history of literature, analysis and understanding of literary texts) ;
• A cultural knowledge in the wider sense of the word (study of the « civilisation » of the countries where these languges are spoken : historical data and contemporary events).

The programme also includes a basic training of general courses.
