The program for the minor in "Italian studies" aims to provide students with both a theoretical and practical introduction to the linguistic, literary and cultural foundations of Italian.
The course will focus on learning the language, but the program also includes an introduction to the history of Italian literature and culture. At the end of the course, students will have improved their active and passive understanding, both in their oral and written skills, of Italian.
Students of modern languages and literature (general option) and students of French and Romance languages and literature who have taken this minor will, provided some additional entry requirements are met, be able to continue studying the Italian language and culture as part of the Masters electives. Furthermore, as part of the agrégation, Romance language students may, in addition to their didactical training in their basic discipline, take didactical courses in the Italian language and literature which will give them the possibility to teach Italian at a later stage.
