ATTENTION
The Bachelor programme in philosophy is being revised.
Students enrolled in their first and second year in 2010-2011 must take the revised programme.
Students enrolled in the third year in 2010-2011 must take the transition programme.
The bachelor programme of Philosophy : General totals 180 credits over 3 years (3 x 60 credits). It consists of a basic major syllabus of 150 credits and a minor syllabus of 30 credits (2 x 15 credits), over years 2 and 3.
Year 1 consists of a semester joint training course with general lectures covering the subjects taught by the Faculty and course of philosophy
From Year 2 onwards, the students are expected to broaden their intellectual and professional horizons by choosing a minor option of 30 credits, either from among other subjects taught in the Faculty or in another UCL Faculty, depending on any prerequisites laid down in these particular programmes.
Three pivotal courses make up the 150 credits of the major orientation of the bachelor syllabus:
(1) introduction to the human sciences (historical criticism, arts and civilisations, European literature, analysis and practice of academic discourse, modern languages, religious sciences);
(2) introduction to the history of philosophy ;
(3) methodological and disciplinary training in philosophy (philosophical propaedeutics, analysis and reading of philosophical texts).
