Minor in Linguistics [30.0] - MINLING

The aim of the minor in linguistics is to provide students with  a general introduction to language sciences, in particular linguistics. At the end of the minor, students will have developed skills in looking at language as an overall sign, rather than just a linguistic sign. In order to take this thought process further, the student must have grasped a certain number of vital concepts in order to understand how language works internally (basic units and structure, contemporary theoretical trends) and externally (relationship with other disciplines). This is why, alongside general or applied linguistics classes, the program also crosses over into other related disciplines which study language : language philosophy, psycholinguistics, la semiology or textual analysis. Given that statistics and (linguistic) I.T. have become (practically) indispensable tools for linguistic analysis, these classes will also form part of the minor program.
