Professional focus: research and social intervention [30.0]
This focus is designed to help students develop an ability to use sociological tools in particular socio-institutional contexts, to tackle operational and strategic issues in public departments, research centres, associations or bodies in the social, cultural, educational, socio-educational and socio-political sectors. For this reason it involves developing a relevant sociological research focus, underpinned by a social intervention issue in these sectors (for example the sociography of a local population, the quantitative or qualitative assessment of social practice and policy, satisfaction surveys, needs analysis or socio-organizational diagnosis). To help students start this focus, there are special sessions and there is also a placement in an organization outside the academic research world.
