Teaching method

A certain number of courses (prefixed MCEU) are specific to the Advanced Master in European Law and the Advanced Master in International law: this gives added reinforcement to the way in which international and European subjects are brought together. This is a long established Louvain tradition. 

The final assignment consists of a special seminar on European law throughout the academic year for 2 hours per week starting from the 7th week of classes, as well as a series of lectures on current issues. 
The specialized seminar consists of interactive sessions in which students are required to make presentations on specialized points of international public and private law. It mainly deals with recent jurisprudence and other legal documents which students are required to comment on. Each student is assigned different presentations based on the reading that all students have to do. The final written assignment is an overview of these presentations and a critical dissertation relating to the lectures on current issues.

Experience has shown that this way of working is more helpful and effective for students, particularly those from foreign countries, than the solitary production of a traditional ‘dissertation’, possibly in another language.
