Main themes

Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

understand description of events, feelings and wishes expressed mainly in high-frequency everyday language; read simple articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems; understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters (job, school, leisure etc.) ; understand the main points of many radio or TV programmes on current affairs when the delivery is relatively slow and clear; take part into a conversation on familiar subjects without previous preparation; give a clear, detailed description of events and experiences; explain his/her viewpoint on a topical issue. At the end of the course: B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Content

In the first weeks of the course the most important structures and functions of the language are soundly revised in the context of communicative activities. Subsequently, more complex structures and functions are presented (such as the expression of personal opinions, wishes, hypothesis etc.). Informations on Italy, the Italian culture and society will be integrated in the material.

Teaching methods

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.

The course will take place in hybrid mode, with online and “face-to-face” lessons.
The most common activities in the classroom are:

• listening comprehension activities (by means of audio and video material),
• reading comprehension activities, drills, conversation in pairs or small groups, simple role plays etc.

Moreover, each student will be asked to create his/her own language portfolio (language activities chosen by the student and performed outside the course timetable). The language Portfolio will be included in the final assessment.

Evaluation methods

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.

Assessment activities (first term, second term and summer session) will be organized either online or face to face, according to pedagogical and/or sanitary reasons.
First term assessment (also for code LITAL1300E) includes the presentation of the individual Language Portfolio (to the class or the teacher), written continuous assessment as well as the active participation in the lessons, both on line or "face-to-face".
Second term assessment includes written continuous assessment and a short audio-video production on themes related to the course.
In the summer session, assessment will include a conversation with teacher on the student's Language Portfolio and on the Audio-video production, and will be completed by a written test or take-home work on the most important language and grammar elements presented during the course.
