Main themes
This course focuses on giving the student teachers the necessary elements (bibliography, sources, critical mind and methodological elements) to start teaching German as a FL in Belgian Compulsory Education. The seminar addresses concrete possibilities for the teaching of modern languages in the secondary education system. Students have to play an active part in this seminar.
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Be able to find and use various sources and resources needed to prepare a GFL course.
By the end of the course, the student teacher will be able to select a course book on the basis of objective criteria, select and adapt authentic texts, be critical when it comes to selecting useful vocabulary, grasp the major role played by culture in foreign language learning and teaching; create didactic sequences integrating elements discussed during the seminar and critically assess sequences produced by themselves or their fellow students.
 
Content
Reading and analysis of theoretical documents
Active participation of the students (discussions, personal research and presentations).
Critical assessment of teaching sequences.

Mixed approach consisting of short presentations by the holder and phases of presentation and discussion of various sources researched and exploited by the students.
Evaluation methods

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.

Final assessment: oral presentation in class (30%), participation in discussions (20%) and the end term paper (50%).
Other information
Depending on events scheduled by the Goethe Institut Brussels or other relevant institutions during the seminar, a field trip might be possible.
