This biennial course and course LCLIB2125 with which it alternates will together make it possible:
' to apply the main principles of library science and bibliometrics,
' to understand the main functions of a library/multimedia library or of a resource centre, as well as the legal provisions relating to them,
' to create or to adapt the structure of a library/multimedia library or of a resource centre,
' to design and implement research tools suited to the public concerned,
' to remain up to date with developments in the discipline,
' to create a management dashboard for a library/multimedia library or for a resource centre,
' to analyse the expectations of the public concerned, to design and to put into practice a development plan
' to evaluate the management of a library/multimedia library or of a resource centre and its user-satisfaction level,
' to become familiar with the tools of document updating.

Content
- Introduction, link to LCLIB2125, major themes in library science.
- Building a library management audit : objectives, environment, budgets, infrastructures, collections and services, organization and staff, public. During Q1, students will carry out an audit of a local public library.
- Management of physical and digital collections, Open Access, the book chain and their cycle in a library, etc.
- Introduction to the use of Integrated Library Systems (ILS) and brief introduction to cataloguing and to the management of articular modules (loan, acquisitions, etc.)
- Plan for safeguarding collections, biological risks of books and preventive protection of documentary heritage.
- Bibliometrics : a critical review of methods for evaluating works and publications, building a management dashboard.
- Documentary mediation and development of users' informational skills.
- Bibliometrics and management dashboards including accounting (examples in public and research libraries).
- Presentation of audits: 1st part with a presentation a workshops on innovation and generation of innovative ideas in libraries.
- Presentation of audits: 2nd part with a presentation of the analysis of changes and good practices to manage them.
Teaching methods
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.
The 15-hour course will consist of 10 thematic sessions, each covering theoretical concepts and case studies. Two of the courses will be entirely or partly led by external professionnals. For two of the more theoretical themes, preparation will be requested in the form of a small documentary research in the professional literature.The LCIB2120 course also includes a public library audit assignment : the last two courses will be devoted to the presentation and group discussion of these audits.
COVID MEASURE: the course will be given in a classroom of BST, Bibliothèque des sciences et technologies - Learning center Pasteur. Their capacities are 40 seats (green situation) - 20 seats (yellow situation) - 16 seats (orange situation) for a group that has never exceeded 10-12 students. The course will normally be held in presence. In red situation, without other possibilities, Teams will be used.
Evaluation methods
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.
Ongoing assessment during Q1 will account for 50% of the final score; the two documentary research works for 3 points and the public library audit for 7 points. Students who have not obtained 5/10 in this continuous assessment will be invited to submit a personal work at the end of Q1 to be handed in before the oral exam in session.
The oral examination during the session will account for 50% of the final score: the analysis of a case study with open book preparation will cover 4 points and a series of more theoretical direct questions on 6 points.

Students will be able to hand in their written work in English. The oral presentation of the audits should be in French (for the other students) as well as the exam in January (with translating dictionary and teacher's help if necessary).

Teaching methods
The LCLIB2120 course is given via Teams as it's justified by the health situation, same day, same time. The due date for the audit work has been postponed by one week. The oral presentations of the audits will be made by the students also via Teams.
Evaluation methods
In plan A (acceptable situation) the assessment in session will be carried out as planned in a face-to-face oral examination (with a part in open book preparation).
In plan B (situation where face-to-face is not allowed at all) will be carried out orally at the same time and on the same dates but via Teams. As in plan A, the student will prepare a question (with his sources) which he(she) will present and will then be questioned on this question and other more specific questions. The student will have to activate his/her camera to validate the exam.
