The seminar focused on specific problems of interpretation in relation to the use of archaeological sources for the reconstruction of social and political relationships during the Iron Age and historical periods (Italy and Roman provinces) too.

The aim is todevelop a discerning approach and analytical methods to study the classical world (material culture, architecture, sculpture and painting etc.). Application of theoretical and anthropological concepts in archaeological interpretation. |
Content
The seminar is organized around a common theme, treated under different perspectives, promoting a multi-disciplinar approach. The aim is to demonstrate to the students the potentiality of such am approach in order to better understand ancient societies. The theme chosen for the academic year 2019-2020 is ancient wall painting.
Teaching methods
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the information in this section is particularly likely to change.
They can change year-over-year: considered the research developed in the field at UCLouvain, students may berequired to attend lectures throughout the semester and make a critical analysis in the end. The seminar can also involve a trip to France or Italy: each student will have an individual research followed by an oral report on a city or an ancient monument.
The seminar also can be based on a detailed analysis of scientific papers on a specific topic with presentation (PPT) by students. A series of lectures is also planned, in order to illustrate the different themes of the seminar.

Continuous evaluation: seminars (50% points) and personal paper (50% points).
