Although we do not yet know how long the social distancing related to the Covid-19 pandemic will last, and regardless of the changes that had to be made in the evaluation of the June 2020 session in relation to what is provided for in this learning unit description, new learnig unit evaluation methods may still be adopted by the teachers; details of these methods have been - or will be - communicated to the students by the teachers, as soon as possible.

Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- To identify the issues raised by digital technologies and social networks in politics
- To confront the implications of changes in the society (provoked by digital technologies and social networks) to different dimensions of political science
- To develop a critical analysis of an application case in relation with one of the topics of the course

- To master and critically mobilize in-depth and knowledge, especially in the national, European and international political fields, but also in international relations and organizations (digital diplomacy) or in the management of public organizations (big data, data protection, hackathon)
To detect and analyze change in political organizations and systems

Content
Knowledge: An analysis of the implications of digital technologies on contemporary politics.
Skills: to be able to use social networks (a.o. Twitter), to be able to implement models and theories of political science to a case of application in relation with digital technologies.
Teaching methods
The class organization will include some sessions (lectures in French) introducing each of the themes and specific issues. Other weeks of the semester will be spent using social media, using online resources and writing the essay for the final evaluation.
Evaluation methods
This unit will be evaluated: written group essay dealing with one of the themes of the course. This essay will mobilize scientific literature, but also online or digital resources (e.g. building Twitter lists of key contributors on a specific topic). The use of social networks (Twitter, YouTube...) will be part of the evaluation and the final grade.
Other information
This unit implies active participation (either in French or in English) on social media and the ability of students to work in group.
