This course presents the basic concepts of philosophical reflection in ethics and connects the issue of ethical commitment with the socio-political context.
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

One aim of this course is to enable students to analyze ethical issues related to individual and collective educational practices and to the organization of educational systems. Another aim is to enable students to develop normative arguments on these issues.

Content
this year, we will focus on the following themes: the aims of education ; education, social justice and equality of opportunities ; ethical issues pertaining to how to finance education and to educational inflation ; should education first prepare students for the economy and, if so, how ? ; family education and gender (in)equality ; citizenship education and the development of critical thinking ; education and migration : ethical issues pertaining to integration policies.
Teaching methods
Into the classroom, students will attend lectures by the teacher and participate in collaborative discussions about concrete cases. Students will be frequently invited to make oral interventions during the lecture and to make short presentations of the results of group discussions. Students will prepare by reading texts or watching other supports (films') ahead of class.
Evaluation methods
written essay written in collaboration with other students, along with an individual oral exam. The oral exam will include questions on the written essay as well as on the topics studied in the course. Active participation (attendance, interventions, class presentations) will also be taken into account.
