Aims

By the end of this course, the student will be able to: - describe and understand the main factors affecting health in developing countries and the principal problems of health - describing and understanding the organization and the functioning of the Health service and health support programs. The course does not aim at giving students specific aptitudes as far as planning, implementation or management of health services are concerned - this is subjected to specific trainings.

Content

This course is an introduction and information, accessible to all public. The objective is to describe and make intelligible the operation of the systems and health programs in developing countries. The course does not aim at giving students aptitudes as far as health services planning, implementation or management are concerned. For each examined topic, the student must have read the notes and have explored the suggested Internet sites, BEFORE the course. The course must allow the student to clarify or raise objection towards readings, and to ask some questions about subjects in connection with the topic of the day.

Prerequisite: for all graduate students having read the notes before coming in class Evaluation: written exam (knowledge checking) held in January.
