The student should have followed the course of intermediate level part 1 (LALLE 1230) or a course of similar level.
Students who took in Bac 1 the beginner course LALLE 1100 must take as well the course LALLE 1130 in order to achieve the level needed at the end of the year. This course will not be credited (30h, cfr. Décret Bologne de la CFB).
The prerequisite(s) for this Teaching Unit (Unité d’enseignement – UE) for the programmes/courses that offer this Teaching Unit are specified at the end of this sheet.
The course is structured around general, field-related and socio-professional subjects.
Reading Comprehension:
- Be able to understand texts that consist mainly of everyday or field-related language.
- Be able to understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters.
- Be able to understand standard field-related correspondence and get the gist of the meaning.
- To be able to read articles and reports concerned with contemporary and field related problems in which the writers adopt particular viewpoints.
Level B2- of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
Listening Comprehension - Individual:
- Be able to understand most recorded or broadcast audio material delivered in standard language about current events or topics of general interest.
- Be able to follow a lecture or talk within his/her own field, provided the subject matter is familiar and the presentation straightforward and clearly structured.
Listening Comprehension - Interactive :
- Be able to catch with some effort much of what is said around him/her in discussion, while possibly finding it difficult to participate effectively in discussion with several native speakers who do not modify their language in any way.

Speaking Skills - Individual :
- Be able to present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to his/her field of interest.
- Be able to explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
Speaking Skills - Interactive :
- Be able to communicate fluently and spontaneously, to a degree that allows normal interaction with native speakers.
- Be able to take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting for and sustaining your views.
- Be able to develop an argument well enough to be followed without difficulty most of the time.

Writing Skills
- Be able to write simple connected texts on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. -
- To be able to write personal letters describing experiences and impressions.
- Be able to write formal letters.
- Be able to take messages communicating enquiries, explaining problems.
- Be able to summarize accurately, report and give his/her opinion about accumulated factual information.
Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
Code:
- Vocabulary : consolidation of basic vocabulary (Langenscheidt)
- Grammar: consolidation of the specific structures of the German language.
Culture
In the development of all the above-mentioned skills the course will
- aim at making the students aware of German cultural aspects and
- develop their capability to assess the values transmitted by these cultures through different domains (social, political, economic, athletic, ...).

Several marks come into account for the final assessment : continuous assessment , written and oral tests.
Each topic includes receptive and productive activities aimed at consolidating and broadening vocabulary and grammar. Particular emphasis on grammar points, likely to cause difficulties to French-speaking learners.

The activities based on authentic documents (reading and listening comprehension) concern economic topics and help the student to develop the communicative competences which will be needed in the course of Bac 3 or in later professional life. Basic vocabulary and structures are trained, reinforced and expanded via written and oral exercises (role-plays, interviews, conversations in small groups of 2 or 4, ')
