Prerequisites

Intermediate Japanese Language skills are required (i.e. LJAPO1300). The student is expected to be able to write and read all signs of hiragana and katakana.

Aims

This course aims to provide the students with the opportunities to improve and enrich their linguistic abilities.

Evaluation methods
  • Attending the course more than more 80 % is a primordial condition to get access to the assessment process.
  • Steady assessment of speaking and writing abilities during the academic year. The result of the steady assessment of the 1st semester could be considered as a note of 'partial exam of January', according to 'Décret Paysage'.
  • Final examination at the end of the academic year, to evaluate grammar, writing, listening, dictation and oral expression skills. This exam probably occurs out of official exam session schedule.
Teaching methods

A traditional class teaching method and interactive learning method are both used. One is particularly used to provide the students with explanations of grammar and kanji, and the other is used to offer more opportunities to them to take part in the discovery, practice and mastering of new grammar topics and vocabulary.
 

Content
  • Enrichment of Japanese Language skills (grammar, writing and reading) and improvement of communication level (oral and aural expressions).
  • At this stage of learning, the student should take more initiative to contribute to an interactive class atmosphere.
Bibliography

New grammar topics and vocabulary are introduced by the teacher in an interactive exchange with students, rather than thought in a traditional way - based on textbooks. The exercises and complementary explanation of grammar will be inspired by the following books :

  • Japanese for Busy People I, II, Association for Japanese Language Teaching, Kana version, Tokyo, 2006.
  • Japonais. Manuel de première année, A. Delteil, Seko Y., Takei Y., Publications de l'Université de Provence, 2006.

  • Leçons de japonais, Arimasa Mori, Librairie Taishukan, Tokyo, 1972.
Other information

Since the teacher is a native speaker, this course contains naturally a part devoted to 'Cultural topics', in which students can discover and get familiar with several Japanese customs, traditional and contemporary Japanese society.
This approach will help to understand some of Japanese grammatical rules and special expressions particular to this language.
