Main themes

This course is devoted to the study of the book in digital form, both in its technical and cultural dimensions. We will study the transition from print to digital, the perspectives for development, the methods of digital reading and the role of librarians and libraries. Students will be made aware of the ideological opposition between free access, the fight against 'copyfraud' and the economic issues.

Aims

On completing this course, students will be familiar with the world of contemporary books, between paper and digital. They will be able to follow the development of technology relating to tools, e-readers and economic and cultural models. They will be able to talk to booksellers and editors and choose the most appropriate models and formats of digital books. They will be able to give good advice on these matters to library users.
