GitHub is a web-based platform built around Git, the most popular version control system used in software and data science projects. It allows you to track changes in your code, collaborate with others, manage project versions, and publish or share your work efficiently.

Visual Studio Code (VS Code) is a lightweight yet powerful code editor widely used in data science and software development. It offers smart features like syntax highlighting, code completion, integrated terminal, Git support, and extensions for languages like Python and R — making it an ideal environment for writing, organizing, and debugging code.

Training aims
By the end of the training, participants will be able to use a git platform to manage versions of their code, collaborate on data science projects, and track changes effectively. They will also be able to set up and use Visual Studio Code as a versatile coding environment tailored to data analysis workflows.

Prerequisites
This training course requires some basic statistical knowledge.

• Versioning with Git
• Presentation of Visual Studio Code
• Configuration of VSCode and RStudio with the UCLouvain git platform
