Introduction to Python

[4 half days] - [starts on 01-07-2021 at 09:30] - [English] - [Formation online]

Do you want to discover Python, an interpreted and object-oriented language more and more used in data analysis and machine learning?

Python is an interpreted and object-oriented programming language. Thanks to a simpler syntax construction, Python is more readable compared to other object-oriented languages such as C, for example. Free and open source, this programming language is regularly enriched with new modules of functions provided by users.

Training aims
At the end of this training, the participant will be familiar with the syntax of the Python programming language. In particular, the main Python data structures will be presented in this course. Jupyter notebook, an interactive computational environment, useful to produce automatic report will also be introduced.

Prerequisites
None.

Content
• Python programming in Spyder (available through the ANACONDA distribution);
• Discovering Python objects: integers, floats, booleans, lists, dictionnaries, tuples;
• Programming tools: conditions, loops, functions;
• Creating new objects using the class statement;
• Reading and saving files;
• NumPy and Pandas, the two main data scientist tools.

Location
Formation online : Online Training via Teams -
Our trainer will contact you by e-mail before the beginning of the training session to send you the connection link and any useful documents.

Here is some additional information that we ask you to read now: If you haven’t done it yet, please download the Teams application (Here is the link to download Teams). For example, this will allow you to be able to share your screen with the trainer if you get stuck during an exercise.

If the training involves the use of data analysis software, you should preferably have this software on your computer in order to take full advantage of the training. For UCLouvain members, you can find out about the availability of the tool from the IT department via the service catalogue (https://servicedesk.uclouvain.be -> SelfService -> Catalogue de service). Depending on the software, a solution may possibly be found if you are unable to get the software installed on your computer. However, this is not the most comfortable way to participate in the training. And we must also anticipate this. So please let us know if this is what you intend to do.
