Why choose this Master?
BECAUSE OF BOTH UNIVERSITIES'
OF RENOWNED EXPERTISE
These two universities have, through their
respective Institutes of European Studies,
developed considerable expertise on the
European Union, the European integration
process and the challenges facing the Union.
Teaching and research takes place in both
Brussels and Louvain-la-Neuve, supported by
expert input from practitioners, decision-makers
and senior European officials such as H. Van
Rompuy, D. Reynders, L. Van Middelaar, G. De
Kerchove, etc.
BECAUSE OF ITS
INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH
The Master in European Studies takes a highly
interdisciplinary approach, calling on knowledge
and research generated by historians, political
scientists, lawyers, economists, etc.
BECAUSE OF ITS POTENTIAL FOR
INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY
• As part of the Erasmus+ programme,
students may be sent to the Paris Institute of
Political Studies, the University of A Coruña,
the University of Coimbra, the University
of Florence, the University of Cologne, the
Jagiellonian University, the University of
Wroclaw, the University of Geneva or Charles
University.
• The Institutes of European Studies of UCL
and the Université Saint-Louis - Brussels
are now, together with the University and
Institute of Political Studies in Strasbourg,
offering students the chance to gain a double
diploma. For this double diploma, students
complete the first year of the Master’s course
in Belgium, and the second at the Institute in
Strasbourg. The course includes a placement.
BUT ALSO
• Because of its geographical proximity to the
European Institutions
• Because of the participation of its researchers
and teachers in international research
networks
• Because of the alternative week organised in
Brussels, which allows students to dialogue
with people actively involved in European
integration, and to visit strategic EU locations.
Recognised centres of research, teaching and documentation
The IES USL-B and the IES UCL are recognised by the European Commission.
In Brussels, the IES USL-B European Documentation Centre is officially recognised by the
Commission, whilst in 1999, the IES UCL was granted the title of Jean Monnet European Centre
of Excellence.
