NarraMuse studies narrative texts—in German, French, and Italian—by authors of Muslim heritage and diverse ethno-national origins within postmigration contexts.
In a variety of narrative forms, ranging from short stories and novels to pop songs, these authors explore and address “identity knots,” as well as the challenges, opportunities, and complexities of belonging to different cultural environments. They also foreground the divide between parental roots and the sociocultural landscape in Europe.
These polyphonic narrative voices peer into aspects of interculturality, reciprocity, and perceptions of self and others, as well as relationships between Muslims and non-Muslims. NarraMuse focuses particularly on the writing techniques and communication strategies through which these texts engage with sociocultural issues related to identity.
