Cold gas-dynamic spray or simply cold spray is coating deposition and additive manufacturing method allowing to produce metal and metal-ceramic composite deposits without material melting. At the same time, mechanical properties of obtained deposits (tensile strength, ductility, toughness) are often lower than the reference values of bulk materials. In this study Friction Stir Processing is applied in order to improve mechanical properties and microstructure of cold spray copper-silicon carbide cold spray deposits produced on aluminum substrate. SEM analysis showed that FSP process significantly modified the structure and properties of composite material. The thickness of affected zone was about 1 mm. Ductility of the material after FSP was significantly improved. Numerical simulation model of the temperature distribution during FSP treatment of cold spray coating was also proposed and validated. Experimental measurement of temperature distribution during FSP process showed good correlation with numerical simulation results.
