Aims
In-depth study of themes in Islam and introduction to the comparative study of Islam and Christianity. This also introduces students to the methods of comparative studies as well as to the presuppositions of inter-religious dialogue and the theological work it requires.
Main themes
Beginning with the problematics of Islam, the seminar is built around one or more themes. Without lingering on superficial or momentary similarities, we will try to point out basic structures and essential motivations on both sides, in order to compare them and analyse what these traditions may represent to one another.
We will pay particular attention to how Islam, based on the Koran, understands and situates Judaism and Christianity. We will make room for questions raised by Islamic-Christian relations today.
This biannual seminar will include lecture time, student presentations and common projects (analyses of texts and audio-visual material, bibliographical research, etc).
Content and teaching methods
The main purpose of this seminary is to study:
1° the similarities between the Qur'ân and the Bible;
2° the very essence of the act of faith in islam and christianity;
3° ancien polemical literature in islam and christianity;
4° the tension between Islam, the West and modernity.
