Aims

At the end of the course the students should be able:
- for the mediacl aspects : to understand the various aspects of human reproduction brought into play in the phenomenons of sterility on one hand and in the birth control methods on the other hand.

- for the psychological and social aspects : to be at ease and to be able to listen with objective and subjective skills a request for birth control, for medical fecundation and for abortion.
The aim is to be able to point out the psychological stakes underlying these requests and if necessary to give relevant advice to the patients and their partners.

Main themes

For the medical aspects, short review of the physiology of reproduction, overview of the causes and treatments of man and woman infertility. Without leaving out the painful question of abortion, overview of the various methods of birth control with their advantages, inconveniences, efficacy and acceptability.

For the psychological and social aspects, to understand the psychological signification of the failures and dissatisfactions towards the methods of birth control and of medical fecundation, to be able to receive the suffering of an abortion request and to propose a supportive care.
The reflection is led by an analysis of the state of discoveries in medical technology, of their promotion through the media, and of the juridical evolution in interaction with the psycho-relational dimension of the human couple

Content and teaching methods

For the medical aspects, short review of the physiology of human reproduction, fertility and infertility, birth control, abortons and men or women sterilization.
Future perspectives.

For the psychological and social aspects : reference to the data in the literature and to the development of clinical cases eliciting the critical mind of the students on these delicate questions for which no response will ever be definitive .
