Aims

The course has two aims. On the one hand, this course will complete the general medical knowledge of the students concerning the fields of general oncology and infectious diseases. Actually, those fields are among the most active concerning the medical research and therapeutics. On the other hand, this course will initiate the students to the brain diseases and pathophysiology of neurological and psychiatric diseases.

Main themes

The course will be constituted by a lecture of 15 hours, 5 hours will be devoted to the general oncology and infectious diseases and 10 to neuro-psychiatric diseases and their treatment.The oral presentation will be given with a classical audiovisual support. The first part will follow the scheme adopted in general pathology (first part, FARM, 30-0-0), an informative presentation that gives an overall picture and general about the main principals of general oncology, of infectious diseases and their therapeutic approaches. The second part will analyse, through chosen examples, the interest and the limitations that the clinical studies, of therapeutic developments in neuropsychiatry. The emphasis will also be placed on the understanding of the relationship between human necessities, ethical, clinical and practical and the realisation of a study with scientific quality.

Content and teaching methods

Neuro-psychiatric diseases and general oncology are discussed on the basis of some clinical cases. Pathological oncology and treatment are discussed. The main steps of clinical trials in these fields are explained.

The candidate will have to present a written exam for which he will have to prove his knowledge of the general concepts of general oncology,infectious diseases and neuropsychiatry concerning the characteristics of the diseases and the principles of treatment.
