Content and teaching methods
Ex Cathedra course. Like ROM 2250, the aim is to complete the education on Medieval French literature, through the in-depth internal study of a work, an author or of several related productions. The course should make the link between Old and Middle French, by making some room for the extension of the study subject, or for the tradition or by choosing a subject present in both ages. By ''internal'' study, we mean taking into account all the elements likely to enlighten texts as transmitted to us, and thus making the student aware of the different ways of criticism and of the generic marks. It is only after we have been through this philosophical type of explanation, that we can make some diversified enlightment critics, which are sometimes conflicting. A good example is for the moment : Villon ( and the clause tradition (tradition testamentaire) ; Rutebeuf and Deschamps on the problems of power and poverty.
