Aims
This course aims to inform students how religion classes are organised in secondary education in French-speaking Belgium.
Main themes
It provides information on the legislative, political and socioeconomic aspects of education and particularly of religion classes.
Content:
- legislation since the 1958 school pact;
- the directives of the Ecclesiastic authorities;
- the legitimacy of religion classes in the Belgian political and cultural situation;
- religion classes and their spirit.
Content and teaching methods
Three sections:
(1) teachers of the Catholic religion in official education
(2) teachers of religion in the Catholic education system
(3) the Catholic religion programme in secondary education.

For this course, students are assumed to have pre-existing contacts with the different school networks and to have started teaching. The course is more effective when it is taken in the second year of the Master's degree.
