Aims

Upon completion of this course entity, the student will possess the basic morphological data to acquire a tridimensional mental representation of the different systems of the human body. He will be capable of locating the exact whereabouts of a structure, describing it in precise terms and explaining the cardinal relationship between its form and function. Finally, he will master the anatomic notions indispensable for understanding the courses on physiology, semiology and pathology proper to his specific study programme.

Main themes

The principal themes covered to meet these objectives will be : - The key anatomical concepts (space planning, terminological conventions, regions, systems, anatomical references, …) - Introduction to the systems. The course will construct the human body, system after system, all the while insisting on the form-function relationship as well as on the topographical and functional interdependence of the structures studied.

Content and teaching methods

Content : - general notions; - osteo-articular System, locomotion muscles and functions; - nervous System, sense organs and senso-motor functions; - heart, vessels and function of circulation; - thoracic and abdominal viscera and respiratory, digestive and uro-genital functions. Methods : lectures illustrated by diagrams and projection of anatomical pictures. The speaker will take care to classify the anatomical data according to a hierarchical system by situating them in a functional, medical, paramedical or sportive perspective

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

Evaluation : Written or oral exam and/or ongoing evaluation elements. Support : Syllabus and/or books. Anatomical parts (skeleton, models) - Atlas - CD-roms : use of computerised supports for studying bodies in three dimensions is encouraged. Supervision by course tutor.
