Aims
By the end of this course, students should be capable of analyzing a text of an ancient historian (antiquity, Greco-Roman, High Middle Ages), perceiving its characteristic elements and situating it within the evolution of a historiographical genre.
Main themes
The history of history reflects the major currents of western civilization. A commented reading of principal historians according to the following schema : conceptions of history and centres of interest, wealth of information, quality of their critique and literary form. The second part of the course will be dedicated to Greco-Roman and Medieval historiography.
