Aims

A methodological reflection on specific issues in Latin linguistics.

Main themes

Account of one or several specific questions related to the functioning and development of the Latin language in Antiquity (syntactical description, problems of lexical derivation, stylistics, etc.). On the occasion of a cursory reading, one of these questions will focus on a particular aspect of the language of the choosen author, whose study involves all means of contemporary philology (computer tools, interaction between Latin and general linguistics, etc.). This course, as the preceding, requires a personal preparation of texts at home.

Content and teaching methods

Study of one or more specific questions of Latin linguistics, from both a synchronic and diachronic point of view. Intensive personal reading of an autonomous literary work or a text corpus.
