Aims

A the end of the course, the student may become first-class stakeholders in an IT project. He can play the role of interface between the user communicty and the ITspecialists who actually develop the system.

Main themes

The course focused on the application of information technology (IT) to management. It aims at:
- understanding the essence and the process of a project of information system development;
- eliciting and organizing manager requirements for automating information processes;
- understanding and applying the facilities of database technology.

Content and teaching methods

Course Content
The course consists of three main parts.
The first part introduces the fundamentals of business computer discipline with, among other things, the definition of a business information system and the basic concepts of IT.
The second part intends to expose a development method for information systems. This method proposes both an IT project management process and modelling tools for depicting the system to build according to management requirements.
The third part is devoted to database management systems - a key technology for managers. The concept of database model and applications of databases are detailed.

Prerequisite : none. Students are supposed to be familiarized with personal computers.

Evaluation : the final exam mainly tests the understanding of concepts covered by the course and the ability to apply them on concrete problems.
