Aims

At the end of the course the students should be able to analyse the ethical questions related to the educational practice (on the individual and collective level) and to the organisation of educational systems. They should also be able to develop a normative argumentation on these questions.

Main themes

The course presents the basic concepts of the philosophical reflection in ethics and cares for the question of ethical commitment to be inscribed into the socio-political context.

Content and teaching methods

Content :
The course presents the basic concepts of philosophical ethics (the right / the good, conscience / objective moral order, individual ethics / social ethics, " fondationnalisme " / " cohérentisme " / relativism, ...) and the main contemporary doctrines.
In the light of these concepts and of these doctrines, the course presents an analysis of some major ethical problems drawn by educational practice and educational organisation (social justice and education, education in front of the challenge of moral pluralism, education to citizenship, deontology of education, formation and socio-professional insertion practitioners, ...).
Method :
The course includes lectures, analysis of important reference texts and discussion on problems relevant for the students experience in the field of education.

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

The summative evaluation tests the ability of the students to call up the philosophical concepts and conceptions studied in an analysis and a normative argumentation related to the ethical problem in the field of education and formation.
It follows educational methods fitted for adults including the link between theory and practice, group work, formative assessment and steps of individual and group appropriation of the contents. Illustrations from the various fields of education and from adults formation : continuous education, specialized education, school field, etc.
