Aims

This course is intended to students who have acquired the B2 level (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), if they have passed the medium level or have spent a semester in a Spanish speaking country. This course is also open to the staff members of the UCL University.
At the end of the course they are expected to have reached the C1 level.
This course is mainly pratique. Its aim is to develop systematically the linguistic competences of students, giving more importance to the communicative competence.

Main themes

This course is mainly pratique and seeks to help the student to be autonomous, mainly in the speaking and writing fields. This course wants to be eminently practical and to develop systematically the linguistic abilities of the students by various means of training. Here the goals to reach:

Reading Comprehension (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
- Can understand specialized texts
- Can read long and complex contemporary or literary texts and appreciate the difference of style.

Listening Comprehension (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
- Can understand oral speaking people and television or films without effort.
- Can follow a conversation between several native speakers.

Speaking (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
- Can tell past actions and stories
- Can communicate his/her ideas, opinios, view point and wishes
- Can make clear and detailed descriptions.

Writing production (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
- Can write a clear and well-organised text.
- Can develop a complexand structured subject, using the adecuate vocabulary.
- Can choose a style adapted to the destinataire.
- Can correctly address letters and CV.

Code:

Masterise Spanish to an experimented user: consolidation and extension of vocabulary; consolidation of grammar and morphological structures. Correct ponounciation and entonation.

Culture:
On level of all the above mentioned aptitudes, but particularly of speaking and of reading comprehension, the course proposes a process of sensitizing to the Spanish-speaking countries cultural expressions.

Content and teaching methods

- Year of study : Students of all faculties and workers at UCL
- Number of hours, rhythm, terms : 90h, 3h/week, the whole year
- Aim and contents : study of specialized vocabulary and grammar, fluently communication, writing and openness to
Spanish and Latino American cultures.
- Evaluation : permanent ; written and oral exams.

Prerequisites
At the begining a test is proposed to students to show their level.
The course develops two aims by combining them. The first aim proposes to carry out a general revision of the Spanish grammar. The second seeks to widen the opening of the students to the cultures of the Latinamerican countries and areas of Spain.
The students of a faculty of the UCL have registered the course in the program of studies; the members of the personnel of the UCL at the Service de formation du Personnel de l'UCL.
No "free student" is accepted.

Course hours: 90 H
Autonomous work: 135 H

Assessment
Formative and certificative continuous Assessment (work to be returned, presence and participation). Written and oral tests.

Course materials
Syllabus of the course. The students are invited to prepare and present two expositions: one on a grammatical aspect and the other on a scientifical or cultural approches to the Spanish speaking world.
Spanish teachers and scholars are invited to lecture and dialogue with the students

Pedagogical accompaniment
- Students' participation in the " Lovaina " activities: lectures-debats, round tables, films, expositions, parties…
which allow them to know the ties betweenlanguages and cultures.
- the ideal number of students by group is of 25 maximun
- the teacher is available in his/her hours of reception
