Aims

These three seminars aim to examine an issue ideally linked to the theme of the student's DEA dissertation: it will be the subject of research by a member (preferably members) of the inter-university programme.

Main themes

At the beginning of every year, in the light of the objective of these three seminars, the Inter-university Course Committee will fix the three themes selected on the basis of suggestions received from teachers on the university programme. In particular, the Committee will ensure that there is a match between teachers' research and the themes of students' dissertations.

Content and teaching methods

Content
The seminar is organised under three headings.
1. Basic theoretical approaches. The concept of "gender" dimensions and issues. History and development of the concept in relation of the issue of development. The Harvard School analytical grid. What questions are there on the basis of practices in the field? The evaluation and integration of the "gender" aspect in development projects.
2. An analysis of popular economy practices on the basis of the gender approach. The visibility of the economic contribution of women. The plurality of logics and the sociality of networks.
3. Gender in the discourse and practices of various development cooperation institutions at international, national/non-governmental and state level. What issues? What tensions?
Methodology
The teachers will provide an introduction on each thematic issue, and will present the main theoretical and conceptual approaches and the outcomes of their research. The students will then present and debate on the basis of experiences in the field and/or articles on the themes under discussion.

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

Assessment:
- short personal work focusing either on one of the themes dealt with in the course, or on the subject in its entirety (70%);
- contribution to the dynamic of the seminar (30%).
