Aims
To teach the students in 3rd licence in dentistry a course upon the main pathophysiology of otorhinolaryngology which is linked to their future practice
Main themes
Description and comment of the pathophysiology of the various fields of otorhinolaryngology, including allergy of the nose, and balance. The pathophysiology of phoniatrics is excluded.
Analysis and description of the most commonly performed tests and clinical exams in ENT. Samples of medical imagery of the main ORL pathologies are shown and commented. Medical and surgical treatments are exposed together with comments on differential diagnosis.
Content and teaching methods
The pathophysiology of hearing and balance, with their various clinical tests, eg. Acoumetry, audiometry, impedancemetry, microotoscopy, electronystagmography, are exposed. The most common pathologies of the ears together with their medical and surgical treaments are reported. The diseases of the pharynx and the tonsils and their treatments are teached more in details. Physiology and diseases of the nose and sinuses - eg. rhinitis, sinusitis, nasal allergy and cancers - and common congenital dysmorphic syndromes are presented. Inborn neck diseases are exposed briefly. Differential diagnosis are studied and commented in each field of ORL.
