Aims

The student must be able to diagnose the different forms of periodontal disease found in his or her patients, to propose a treatment and to work out the aetiological part of periodontal therapy: oral hygiene instructions, scaling and root planning.

Main themes

- Abording the patient, medical chart and intra oral examination.
- Establishment of a diagnosis based upon collected data.
- Achievement of indicated treatment ( beside the surgical aspects ).

Content and teaching methods

Contents:
- Periodontal examination.
- Periodontal chart and diagnosis.
- Treatment:Oral health instructions.
- Scaling.
- Root planing.
- Maintenance therapy.

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

Pre-required:
- Theoretical basis in periodontology + preclinical exercises.

Evaluation:
- Continuous evaluation by assistants assuring supervision.
- Clinical examination after case presentation.
- Seminary: synthesis on a selected subject.
