Aims

Teaching of paediatrics dental medicine consists of children and teenager (up to 18-20 years old) follow up.
Being able of:
1. Diagnosis and cure of child and teenager dental diseases
2. Apply caries prevention programs that vary depending on the patients age and support children and parents to also apply them.
3. Apply methodologies to control pain during dental cures and extractions
4. Avoid early losses of temporary or definitive teeth, evaluate and foresee their consequences on jaws growth and harmony
5. Follow up child and teenager dental trauma and its consequences in the short, mid and long term.

Main themes

1. Theory

Prevention, information and education on dental care - Motivation and learning of several methodologies
Care of caries pathologies, restoration and rehabilitation
Interception of eruption and permutation troubles.
Follow up of non-caries dental pathologies and therapies
Endocontics of temporary and immature permanent teeths
Child and teenager dental trauma
Interceptions of dysfunctions and parafonctions
Interceptive and preventive dental orthopedics

2. Practice

Discussion on follow up of children with physical or physiological diseases not relevant to the
pediatrics dental medicine.
Introduction to the philosophy of care at USDH.
Evolution of care in handicapped child centers.
Integration of dental problems in units gruping children with heard and neural diseases (non-exhaustive list).

Content and teaching methods

1. Content :

The goal of pediatrics dental medicine is to allow practitioners to perform diagnosis, interceptions, early interceptions and preserving therapy having in mind the specifics of child and teenagers follow-up.

2. Methodologies :

In dental pediatrics centers where the student follows up the patient in a comprehensive way up to the end of the treatment.
Each stage is subject to evaluation by postgraduate students and heads of dental units.

1. Prerequisites :
Students will have to be familiarized with all disciplines (orthodontics, stomatology …) related to
the specifics of child and teenager dental medicine.

3. Pediatrics dental medicine centers with permanent staff (heads of dental units, assistants = post
graduate students)
