Aims
To provide scientific, collective follow-up to DEA dissertations in demography, and to oversee the implementation of the know-how acquired on Course SPED 3310 ("Research methodology and practice").
Main themes
Students will be invited to present the different stages of their research project (e.g. formulation and precise definition of the research topic, the drawing up of hypotheses, the definition of concepts and the construction of an analytical framework based on a systematic analysis of the literature, and a presentation of the analytical tools used and the outcomes) with a view to discussing it in a group.
Particular attention will be focused on the theoretical development of the project and of a coherent, systematic approach to research, and to the implementation of the know-how (i.e. oral and written communication) acquired on Course SPED 3310.
Content and teaching methods
There will be the same active teaching methodology as on Course SPED 3310, with supervisors intervening on methodological issues and ensuring that the dissertation writers participate appropriately.
Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)
For DES students studying for a PhD, the dissertation ought to be an initial step towards their doctoral thesis, and should prepare them for the first examination (épreuve de confirmation).
Pre-requirement: Course SPED 3310.
