Aims

Organic synthesis is an important aspect of chemistry that demands the integration of a bundle of knowledge. The first objective of the course is to teach the student the best way to analyse a target-structure so he can define a plan of action. The second objective of the course is to learn the application of a synthesis by the manipulation of activation methods and of selectivity control.

Main themes

1. Retro synthetic analysis
2. Activation and protection of chemical functions
3. Chemo selectivity; regioselectivity
4. Anchimeric assistance
5. Stereo selectivity and asymmetric synthesis: notions developed are illustrated by concrete examples of organic synthesis of products interesting to the agro alimentary and pharmacy industry, or natural products.

Other information (prerequisite, evaluation (assessment methods), course materials recommended readings, ...)

Prerequisites: CHIM1270, CHIM2140 (partim).

Evaluation: written examination and personal work (report of an analysed article).

Support: teacher´s course notes, scientific articles, books from CHIM library.
