Aims
To make the ideas and methods on which the classification of all living beings is based accessible to students. To clarify the notion of species and its limits, its identification and nomenclature. To allow students to situate organisms in the classification. To study the diversity of plants and especially angiosperms.
Main themes
The course covers the following points : 1 classifications : goals, necessity and applications;
Main schools of actual debate; 2 the species : concept and limits (race to species complex) ; ideas of nomenclature and description ; speciation and evolution ; 3 phylogenesis : reconstruction, data analysis, use of molecular biology; 4 plant diversity : historiy, Pteridophytes and Gymnosperms, actual classification system of Angiosperms and diversity of existing families.
