Aims

Intermediate level

Reading comprehension:
the student:
Can understand texts written in a simple everyday language and related to the students' world.
Can understand the description of events, feelings and wishes in personal letters. Can read articles and reports about contemporary problems in which the writer adopts particular points of view.

B2 level of the "Common European Framework for languages".


Listening Comprehension:
Individually:
Can understand conferences and long speeches about familiar topics.
Can understand most broadcasted news and information on TV.

In interaction with native speakers: Can understand a conversation with a native speaker about a general topic.

B2 level of the "Common European Framework for languages".

Speaking skills:

Individually:
Can give clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to his/her field of interest. Can explain a viewpoint on a current affairs topic giving advantages and disadvantages.

Interactive:
Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interactions with a native speakers quite possible. Can take an active part in a conversation in familiar contexts, and can present and defend his/her arguments

B2 level of the "Common European Framework for languages".

Writing skills:

Can write short, simple notes and messages. Can write a simple personal letter, for example thanking someone for something.
A2 level of the "Common European Framework for languages".

Main themes

Code
Ability to master basic vocabulary (2000 words) and the basic structures of the German language. Consolidation and extension of vocabulary. Special attention will be paid to pronunciation.

Culture
At all previously mentioned levels: increasing awareness of the culture of German-speaking countries

Content and teaching methods

- 30-hour course taught for three hours a week during the first 10 weeks of the academic year
- Course for BAC 3 in DRT

Prerequisites: having passed the ALLE 1800 course

Objectives: Level B2 of the CEFRL for reading comprehension
Level B2- for listening comprehension
Level B2- for oral expression and
Level B1- for written expression

Methods and content:
- extension and consolidation of vocabulary and grammar structures
- listening and reading exercises
- oral exercises (individual and interactive)
- written exercises
- texts and activities about general topics
- E-learning and self-tuition

Evaluation: continuous assessment, written and oral exam

Methods:
The course is centred around different topics (e.g. shopping, telephoning, world of work...). Learning with teaching or authentic material (listening and reading comprehension). Consolidation and extension of basic vocabulary and the basic structures of the German language by means of written or oral exercises (drills, role-plays, interviews, discussion in small groups of 2 up to 4).

- teacher is available during his/her contact hours and can be reached via e-mail.
